“ On a sheep cropped knoll under a clump of elms we ate the strawberries and drank the wine - as Sebastian had promised, they were delicious together.’

Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh

Picnics are the whole joy of summer days. A lucky spring forecast, hardy participants or a gift of an Indian summer can stretch their season beyond the expected too.

A loaf of bread, oozing cheese, and a ripe tomato are an event in themselves, but for something more elaborate, ask about hampers and deliveries.

A few example picnics on this page.
